THE DOCTORS SAY YOU ARE 20 YEARS YOUNGER – Mahama Tells Opoku-Agyemang
Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has returned to her official responsibilities following a prolonged medical leave, receiving a hearty reception from President John Dramani Mahama, who encouraged her to take her time reintegrating into her position.
“The doctors say you are 20 years younger. That is what the professor told me—that you are okay and fit for the job. We will ask that you take it easy for a little while, and after that, we will see how things go,” President Mahama said during a brief address on Thursday, May 22, in Accra.
The Vice President’s comeback follows several weeks of public speculation and subtle worry regarding her health. Originally anticipated to last three weeks, her medical leave was prolonged well beyond that period.
Individuals familiar with the Office of the Vice President verified that following initial consultations at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), she went overseas for additional medical care.
While specifics regarding her treatment are kept confidential, President Mahama’s remarks indicate she has completely recovered and is authorised to return to her duties.
Her absence sparked political discussion and worries about the clarity of updates from government officials, especially considering her key position in the administration.
Nonetheless, her comeback and the President’s comments seem to reinforce the administration’s stance that her health condition was managed.
