“THE NPP GOVERNMENT HAS BEEN AN ABYSMAL FAILURE” – Movement for Change Vice Presidential Candidate, KOD Criticizes Akufo-Addo Administration

Kwame Owusu Danso(KOD), Vice Presidential candidate for the Movement for Change, has delivered a scathing critique of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. In an exclusive interview with Nkonkonsa.com, KOD expressed his deep disappointment with the ruling party, labeling their leadership as a failure, particularly in fulfilling promises made to the youth and Ghanaians at large.

KOD reflected on the overwhelming support Akufo-Addo received from young voters in the 2016 general election, attributing his victory in part to their belief in his leadership. “A lot of the youth had immense confidence in Akufo-Addo, which heavily influenced his victory in the December 2016 elections,” he stated. “If you check the statistics, you’ll see how many young people turned out to vote for him.”

He further elaborated that the NPP capitalized on the hopes and aspirations of Ghana’s youth, selling them a vision of change and prosperity. The promise of job creation, infrastructural development, and economic empowerment were key factors that drew the support of young voters. However, KOD stressed that these promises have not been met.

“They promised a dam in every village—nothing happened. They said $1 million would go to every constituency—nothing happened. They told us if the fundamentals are weak, the exchange rate will expose you, and now the cedi is at an alarming rate of GH₵15.6 to the dollar,” KOD criticized. “They said they wouldn’t borrow, but now Ghana’s debt portfolio has skyrocketed to over 700 billion cedis, with very little to show for it.”

He also pointed to the recent controversy involving Ghanaian-American comedian Michael Blackson, who publicly claimed to have been scammed in a land deal in Ghana. KOD used this to underscore the government’s perceived disinterest in the concerns of ordinary Ghanaians. “This government does not care about the plight of its people, only about enriching their inner circle,” he remarked.

In his critique, KOD emphasized that the “Agyapa” deal, which many have described as a mere facade, is actually a carefully crafted strategy by the government to maintain control over key sectors of the economy. “When people dismiss the ‘Agyapadie’ as just another document, they fail to realize that it is the NPP’s true manifesto, designed to entrench control over the country’s resources,” KOD concluded.

His comments reflect growing frustration among sections of the Ghanaian population, particularly the youth, who feel let down by the current administration’s failure to deliver on its lofty promises. As the nation gears up for another election cycle, such criticisms from political opponents like KOD are expected to fuel heated debates on the performance of the NPP government.
