THE RIGHT PLAYERS WHO ARE READY AND DEDICATED SHOULD BE CALLED TO THE BLACK STARS – Kwesi Nyantakyi

Kwesi Nyantakyi, the ex-president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), believes that the Black Stars still have a shot at qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, though he asserts that significant changes are necessary to improve the team’s prospects.

During an interview on Lawson TV, Nyantakyi spoke about worries regarding the team’s recent difficulties and the path ahead.

“I don’t think all is lost, but we must fix it,” he stated firmly. “We have World Cup qualifiers in March against Chad and Madagascar, and I believe that the right players will have to be called for these games.”

Nyantakyi stressed the necessity of enhancing the team by focusing on the future, especially on the younger generation.

“We need to revamp the youth teams and focus on their transition to the senior side to strengthen the Black Stars,” he explained.

He cited the case of Ghana’s U-20 team, which made history by triumphing in the World Cup held in Egypt in 2009.

“If we look at Ghana’s U-20 team, who won the World Cup in Egypt in 2009, they were successfully integrated into the Black Stars,” Nyantakyi continued.

“This integration boosted the chances of the Black Stars, helping them reach the finals of the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola and almost making it to the semi-finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.”

Kwesi Nyantakyi is confident that this kind of success can be duplicated, but it demands thoughtful picking and dedication.

“It should not be the normal call-ups but players who are ready and dedicated to play for the country and the shirt,” he said.
