Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has expressed that he wants Anthony Joshua to represent boxing in Africa as an ambassador.
When the former British heavyweight boxer, who had won several titles, paid the President a courtesy call at the Jubilee House, he expressed this intention.
Top dignitaries in attendance included Legacy Rise Sports CEO Sharaf Mahama, boxing great Azumah Nelson, and Sports Minister Kofi Adams.
Former British welterweight champion Amir Khan co-produced Legacy Rise’s “Battle of the Beasts” Boxing Night, which Joshua headlined after landing in Ghana on Friday, June 13.
Joshua admitted at the meeting that he is eager to share Ghana’s incredible qualities with the world.
According to President Mahama, the presence of Anthony Joshua, a Nigerian, in Ghana is a driving force behind the transformation of African lives.
“I told him-Anthony Joshua- he will be our ambassador. It needs people like him to help to change the lives of young people and so we wish him to be an ambassador for boxing in Africa and take that as one of the courses that he champions that after him there will be a wave of boxers…who would also make Africa proud and change the societies from which they come from. You are an icon very much loved in Ghana” President Mahama said.
