Media personality and influencer Mikki Osei Berko has revealed that he was removed as a brand ambassador for Heaven Insecticides after requesting improved compensation for his role. Speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb’s Elsie Lamar on Talkertainment on February 6, 2025, sighted by NKONKONSA.com, Berko recounted his experience with the company, shedding light on the challenges faced by brand ambassadors in Ghana.
Berko disclosed that he was paid GH¢15,000 for his work, which included shooting television commercials and featuring on billboards across the country. However, he felt the compensation did not match the value he brought to the brand. “I left Heaven because they didn’t understand the need to properly pay me as a brand ambassador. They thought GH¢15,000 was enough after the contract, but I had to address it and even consulted top people in advertising to step in,” he explained.
According to Berko, his request for a pay increase, prompted by the extensive use of his image to market the product, led to his dismissal. “I asked for an increase because of how they were using my image to sell their product, and that got me kicked out. After the contract ended, I still saw the adverts a few times. I had to let it go because, had I pushed further, I would’ve been labeled a troublemaker,” he added.
Despite the fallout, Berko expressed pride in the impact he had on the brand’s success. “By the grace of God, when I started working with them, there were other top brands. Eventually, the product became scarce because people were buying it. I believe that when I work for you and you don’t reward me, God will find a way to reward me somewhere else,” he said.
He also shared his emotional satisfaction when fans recognize him for his work on the campaign. “Even though it doesn’t put food on my table, it touches me emotionally when people recognize me and mention things I said in the commercial,” Berko concluded.
