‘SAM GEORGE CAN’T JUST GET UP AND REDUCE DATA PRICES BECAUSE HE’S A MINISTER’ – Nana Aba Anamoah Defends Minister Amid Criticism
Media personality Nana Aba Anamoah has jumped to the defense of Sam Nartey George, Ghana’s newly appointed Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, amid growing criticism over rising data costs.
Since his appointment, Minister Sam George has faced significant backlash from the public, especially on social media, with many accusing him of failing to fulfill his promise of lowering internet data charges—a pledge he frequently made while in opposition.
But Nana Aba says it’s not that simple.
Taking to her social media platforms, she explained that data pricing reforms are complex and cannot be implemented unilaterally or instantly by a minister.
“It doesn’t work that way! He can’t just get up and reduce data prices because he’s a minister. Don’t judge him based on opposition utterances. The reality in governance is far more complex,” she stated.
Her comments come after several online users resurfaced videos of Sam George criticizing former Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful for failing to reduce data prices under her tenure.
Nana Aba acknowledged that politicians often make populist statements while campaigning but urged Ghanaians to give the new minister time to work through regulatory and industry processes.
“People say what the masses want to hear during campaigns. But the job of governing is a different beast,” she added in response to a critic.
