DO YOU WANT TO DISGRACE ME? – Cheddar Tackles GRA Over Tax Evasion Claims
The founder of the New Force, Nana Kwame Bediako, has denied tax evasion claims by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
The New Force leader was fined GH¢50,000 and made headlines in state newspapers for not filing personal income tax reports between 2013 and 2016.
Nana Kwame Bediako also known as Cheddar has since taken to social media, X to respond to the tax evasion claims on January 18, 2024.
Speaking in local parlance he said “ I woke up this morning, only to see my pictures on the front cover of multiple publications alleging that I have evaded taxes. I have dedicated almost 22 or 23 years in this country. When it comes to taxes, I have consistently fulfilled my obligations and continue to do so.”
Cheddar clarified that he could not have avoided paying taxes up to this point because he regularly imported things into the nation. Despite having a high tax income overall, he continued, he always made sure that his taxes were paid on time.
Given this, he found it incomprehensible that the GRA would purposefully release his images in order to violate tax laws.
“If we consider the state of the economy and the hardship we face as citizens, it appears the government was doing nothing to alleviate our difficulties.
“The government intends to disgrace me, so it published my pictures in the papers. No, you cannot disgrace a man whom God has graced,” he said.
He went on to say that instead of using the method they used, the GRA could have set up a meeting with him if they thought he was behind on paying his taxes.
Cheddar grabbed the chance to urge the government to employ more people in order to lower unemployment, as opposed to relying solely on a small number of private workers to make ends meet.
He emphasized that he plans to become Ghana’s next president since he has seen that the current administration is unable to fulfill its purpose. He would, however, offer proof of the purposes of the levies, unlike the government.
