Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has alleged that the ongoing investigations into his company, Akonta Mining Limited, are politically motivated actions driven by fear from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Wontumi told Wontumi TV in an April 23, 2025 interview that his ambition to become the NPP National Chairman has sparked envy and fear within the NDC, prompting what he described as harassment targeted at him and his business interests ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“My National Chairmanship ambition has put fear in the NDC, so they have targeted me,” he stated.
The government recently revoked Akonta Mining’s license citing alleged breaches, as confirmed by the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources. Additionally, the Financial Intelligence Centre has frozen all bank accounts and financial records linked to Akonta Mining as part of the investigations.
