FEMALE STUDENT ALLEGEDLY GANG-RAPED DURING INTERSCHOOLS SPORTS IN KOFORIDUA
Police launch investigation as incident coincides with violent clashes between rival schools

A female student of Osino Presby Senior High Technical School (OSSEC) has allegedly been gang-raped during an interschools sports competition in Koforidua in the Eastern Region, sparking police investigations and renewed concerns over student safety at sporting events.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Friday, February 6, some distance away from the Koforidua Sports Stadium, where the finals of the interschools sports competition were taking place.
The victim was reportedly found in a weak and distressed condition and was conveyed on a pragya motorbike to the police station before being referred to the Eastern Regional Hospital for medical attention.
The alleged sexual assault occurred amid heightened tension at the sports venue, as violent clashes reportedly broke out between students of Pope John Senior High School and Seminary School. Witnesses say students hurled stones at each other, causing panic and disrupting activities at the stadium. Police officers were deployed to restore calm and prevent further escalation.
The development comes barely a day after another violent incident involving students in Koforidua. A final-year student of Koforidua Senior High Technical School (SECTECH) was allegedly stabbed in the shoulder and back during a confrontation. The suspect in that case is said to be a student of New Juaben Senior High School.
The injured SECTECH student has since been admitted to hospital and has reportedly undergone surgery.
The Ghana Police Service has launched investigations into both incidents as authorities work to establish the facts and identify those responsible. Meanwhile, the incidents have raised serious concerns about security arrangements during interschools sporting events in the region.
