‘I AM SORRY’ – Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia Apologizes to NPP Members Over 2024 Election Defeat

Former Vice President admits party missteps, vows to learn lessons and regroup for future elections.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Vice President and 2024 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), publicly apologized to party members for the disappointing outcome of the 2024 general elections.

Speaking during an address in London, United Kingdom, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged that while the party worked hard, it failed to get everything right.

“We got quite a few things wrong, and I think that, on my own behalf and on behalf of the party, I apologise to all of you for us not getting the figures right,” he stated.

Despite the setback, he expressed optimism about the future, affirming the party’s commitment to learning from past mistakes.

“I believe that, by the grace of God, if we are given another opportunity, we will get many things right, because we have learnt the lessons that will guide us forward.”

Following the landslide defeat, a 12-member committee led by former Speaker of Parliament Professor Mike Oquaye investigated the causes but the party has withheld the report from the public.

The 2024 elections saw the NPP lose significantly, with NDC’s John Mahama winning 56.55% of the presidential vote against Bawumia’s 41.61%. The NDC also secured a commanding parliamentary majority, holding 183 seats to NPP’s 88 in the 9th Parliament.
