Actress and producer, Yvonne Nelson has expressed her dissatisfaction with the current government during “dumsor” over the viral footage from the Tema General Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
In the video, a nurse discussed how the facility’s power outage could put newborns in danger of dying.
When responding to the widely shared Tema General Hospital video, Yvonne Nelson struggled to find the right words to express the circumstances. She referred to the nation’s leaders as evil.
In her own words, she said: “I don’t even know what to type. Our Leaders are WICKED”.
The seasoned actress called out President Akufo-Addo and questioned how he sleeps at night, considering the poor infrastructure in the country. She wrote on X saying: “@NAkufoAddo how do you sleep at night? 8 years of lies. #DUMSORMUSTSTOP”.
In the most recent hospital video, moms are seen using cloths to fan their infants due to the intense heat in the wards following an outage of electricity.
Accra-based GHOne TV has claimed that a newborn is believed to have passed away as a result of the facility’s unstable power supply.
“Erratic power cut on Tuesday evening plunged the neonatal unit of Tema General Hospital into chaos, resulting in the heartbreaking loss of a newborn,” the channel posted on social media on March 27, 2024.
“The neonatal unit, where infants requiring intensive care are housed, relies heavily on electricity to sustain life-saving equipment such as oxygen support and emergency care devices. The generator intended to provide backup power for the unit is prone to shutting down when overloaded,” their post added.
The energy minister and the power distributor have rejected calls from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for a schedule of power outages.
