NATIONAL COMMUNICATION AUTHORITY TO SHUT DOWN 49 ILLEGALLY OPERATING TV STATIONS

The National Communication Authority (NCA) has announced its decision to shut down 49 illegally operating television stations in Ghana.

The NCA issued a press release on April 21, enlisting all the 49 TV stations who are operating without valid authorisations.

According to the release this action taken by them forms part of a continuous monitoring exercise conducted on various Satellite Free-to-Air Television platforms using the Broadcast Monitoring System (BMS) and the Radio Spectrum Monitoring System (RSMS).

Some of the TV stations that has been identified as having violated the Section 2 (4) of the Electronic Communications Act 775 of 2008 and will be shut down include Dove TV, NTV, Chief TV, Kiss TV, Thunder TV, Ahotosour TV, Ice1 TV, Asempa TV, Iron TV and others.

NCA revealed that the exercise is being done in conjunction with the Ghana Police Service and National Security Intelligence Operatives.
