With just one week to the commencement of the tournament, Black Stars goalkeeper Joseph Wollacott has been ruled out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The number one goalkeeper for Charlton Athletic will miss the competition due to a finger injury he suffered on Saturday during Burton Albion’s pre-game warm-up.
It will be a serious setback for Ghana and the goalkeeper. He was scheduled to attend the Mundial for the first time.
Following his debut in October 2021, the 26-year-old proved crucial for Ghana during the qualifying series.
The final 26-man Ghanaian roster will be revealed on Monday, November 14, and the team will begin training in Dubai that same day.
After Charlton’s game on Saturday, the manager of the club, Ben Garner said Wollacott would be scanned when they get back to their base.
“He’s just caught at the end of his finger in the warm-up, so he’s gonna get scanned as soon as we get back down to London.
“Obviously, we’re hoping and praying this is nothing because he’s due to fly out to the world cup tomorrow, so if he’s scanned as soon as we get back and then fingers crossed there.”
The club has since not provided any update on the scan, but the player’s entourage has confirmed he will be missing out on the global showpiece.
