GHANAIANS MUST PAY MAXIMUM 6 MONTHS RENT ADVANCE FOR RESIDENTIAL PROPERTIES advance for residential properties – John Dumelo l

Ghanaian actor and politician, John Dumelo has shared details about his intentions to join the legislature.

On January 1, John Dumelo, who is vying to be the MP for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, promised to address the problem of exorbitant rent prices on Twitter.

He claims that the greatest amount of rent that Ghanaians are expected to pay for residential premises is six months’ worth. But before renting out a property, a lot of landlords demand an upfront rent advance of two years.

Should John Dumelo be elected, he promised to address this matter first.

“The first thing I will champion when I become member of parliament is the rent issue. Ghanaians must pay maximum 6 months rent advance for residential properties,” he posted.

The Ghanaian Rent Control Department has advised landlords not to require more than six months’ rent up front from their renters as this is illegal and may result in legal action.

The department’s PRO, Emmanuel Kporsu, in an interview earlier in the year, clarified that tenants can voluntarily pay more than six months’ rent in advance if they wish, but landlords cannot force them to do so.

The department’s statement was made in the context of the housing challenges and the demand for affordable and social housing in the country.
