Nana Kwame Bediako, the Leader of the New Force Movement, has expressed his utmost commitment to supporting journalists through his Ghana Media Fund (GMF), assuring their welfare and safety.
He explained that the GMF, part of his social intervention policies, aims to provide financial freedom for journalists and alleviate their economic burdens.
Mr Bediako, also known as Freedom Jacob Caesar, made this statement during his visit to the leadership of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) at the International Press Centre in Accra on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.
He emphasised that it was the wish of Ghana’s first President, Mr Kwame Nkrumah, to see journalism flourish in Ghana with sustained welfare for journalists, adding that the New Force movement, led by him, aims to fulfil Nkrumah’s vision.
Although not a politician, Mr Bediako stressed that his policies are what Ghana currently needs to overcome its economic challenges.
“I’m not a politician and I do not know anything about politics but I’m a leader, a leader with vision, that is what I have”, Freedom Jacob Caesar stressed.
He highlighted that while politicians focus on the next election, a leader’s priority, like his, is to build a country.
Mr Bediako also unveiled his plans to establish a technology hub in Ghana, comparable to Silicon Valley in the US.
He believes such a hub will contribute significantly to Ghana’s economy, citing the job creation impact of Jeff Bezos’ Amazon in the US.
“We want to create a sustainable platform for technology hub in the country. When we have tech hub, we can produce iPhones in the country”, Mr. Bediako said.
Furthermore, he outlined his policy to create jobs and enhance human development, emphasising the need to address unemployment by focusing on regional development and infrastructural projects.
The businessman expressed concern about Ghana’s overreliance on road transportation and pledged to prioritise the expansion of railways.
Regarding security, Mr Bediako expressed worry about the destruction of water bodies in the country, which he said poses security threats.
He proposed using technology to crack down on criminals, particularly those involved in environmental degradation.
In response, the GJA President, Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, thanked Mr Bediako for being the first political leader to visit the association and appreciated his pledge to support the media.
He appealed to Mr Bediako to contribute to the GJA’s Journalists Support Fund, aimed at assisting retired journalists and those attacked in the line of duty.
Nr Dwumfour also commended the policies of the New Force movement and assured fair coverage from the media.
