Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong has explained his guarded aspirations for his career in politics.
He disclosed to KSM in a recent interview that he became afflicted with a cardiac issue in 2008 as a result of devoting a great deal of time and energy to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s presidential campaign.
After the voting went into a second round, with Akufo-Addo leading in the first, Akufo-Addo lost to the late John Atta Mills. He said that his loss caused a cardiac condition.
“I learnt my lesson from 2008 when I put my resources, my soul and my will to support President Akufo-Addo, when he lost, I got a heart problem. So, my doctors counselled me, they didn’t know I was a politician until they saw my heartbeat and all those things.
“So, I learnt my lesson from that time. I will campaign, I will do everything but I will not religiously get involved and say that do or die,” he stated adding that he was not bitter at former allies who refused to back his flagbearership bid but that his beef was the attacks they visited on him during campaigns.
In November 2023, Agyapong was defeated by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia in the NPP primary, which set up the 2024 presidential contest.
He has declined to provide resources to the campaign, despite maintaining that he was not upset with the outcome and that Bawumia was not his enemy other than the fact that others close to him continued to treat him disrespectfully.
Agyapong has repeatedly bragged over the years about the enormous sums of money he has contributed to the NPP campaign.
