ORGANISE YOUR OWN DEMO, WE WILL CHOOSE WHO TO PARTNER WITH – IMANI Boss Franklin Cudjoe Rejects Yvonne Nelson’s Call For #DumsorMustStop Demo

Franklin Cudjoe, president of IMANI Africa, says his think tank will not give in to pressure to plan a protest against the government over the continuous blackouts, or “dumsor.”

He emphasized that IMANI will carry out their protest at their own speed and that everyone who has similar complaints is free to plan their own protests.

On Tuesday, April 23, Mr Cudjoe disclosed on Facebook that they are preparing to stage a protest over the ongoing dumsor problem.

This reaction follows actress Yvonne Nelson’s request that IMANI organize a similar demonstration to the one that took place in 2015.

When Yvonne Nelson called, there had been sporadic power outages recently, and a lot of people in Ghana were demanding that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) provide a load-shedding schedule.

Ms. Nelson indicated her willingness to participate in IMANI’s outreach for the vigil in a post on X on Monday, April 22. She cited the organization’s participation in a comparable event from 2015.

She chastised President Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), saying they were neglecting the nation and that this could no longer stand.

Mr. Cudjoe retorted angrily, saying that Yvonne Nelson was free to plan her rally and that IMANI would choose partners for their protest.

“We have heard the call by the redoubtable Ms Yvonne Nelson for round two of #dumsormuststop. Fair call even as we (IMANI) have maintained our criticism of the government’s bad decisions for what often seems like a rudderless leadership, the latest dumsor episodes being the zenith. So as you can see ( T-shirts), we are preparing and we will make the call and choose how we demonstrate and who we want to partner at the right time.”
