Samuel Inkoom responded to the situation where musicians are allowed to use football pitches in the country for concerts.
Sports journalists in the country widely discussed and criticized the use of stadiums for concerts last year.
They expressed concerns following the rental of the Accra Sports stadium to Stonebwoy for his show, which left the pitch in poor condition, as seen in viral videos.
The most unfortunate thing was the postponement of a premier league match scheduled to take place at the stadium the day after Stonebwoy’s concert due to the unsuitable condition of the pitch.
Reacting to this in an interview on the Day Show with Berla Mundi, Samuel Inkoom mentioned that “in my opinion, football pitch is supposed to be a football pitch.”
“Yeah, I think so,” Inkoom replied when the host, Berla Mundi said football pitches should not be used for musical concerts.
“It is not wrong to give it out to him [Stonebwoy]. I will not say it was wrong,” Inkoom said.
While not entirely opposed to the idea, the ex-Black Stars player urged authorities to implement solutions to preserve the pitch’s quality in case they decide to rent it out for concerts.
He mentioned pitches in both Europe and overseas where concerts are taking place with complete safety measures and ensuring the pitch’s high quality.
“There are certain things they can do and it will not affect the grass. They have to put certain things on the pitch that even when you do a show and nothing will happen. They do lot of shows on pitch in Europe, Beyonce and all. Its something different. They can finish the show and nothing happened. They cover the whole pitch but this one we are not doing that and it is affecting the game as well,” Inkoom stated.
