THE MOVIE INDUSTRY IS NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO YOUTUBE, IT REMAINS UNTAPPED – James Gardiner

Prominent Ghanaian actor, James Gardiner emphasized how crucial social media platforms such as YouTube are in promoting the growth of the Ghanaian film sector.

During a conversation with media personality Doreen Avio, the ‘Taste of Sin’ star pointed out that a lot of individuals do not know how to properly use these platforms for their advantage.

Gardiner highlighted YouTube as an untapped platform, mentioning how one video can draw in millions of views and produce significant earnings.

“YouTube is an untapped place I feel people are not paying attention to, but the view of just one of the productions there clocks about 29 million views, and that should tell you African movies are going well,” he remarked.

While Gardiner recognized the importance of major streaming services such as Netflix, he stressed the importance of giving attention to YouTube.

Gardiner reported on his recent project in Nigeria, highlighting how Nigerian TV channels rapidly discover movies on YouTube and transform them into popular hits.

“Work is good in Nigeria, and it’s not only Ghana that picks these movies. I feel it’s everywhere, and it’s even more Nigerians than Ghanaians, When a film drops on YouTube, in a matter of 20 to 30 minutes, other YouTube platforms, which I feel are predominantly based in Nigeria, pick it up and start showing it, hence bringing up the numbers as well,” he said.

Despite the obstacles encountered by the Ghana film sector, Gardiner maintains a hopeful outlook on its future, affirming that the industry will prosper and expand through a positive attitude and ongoing dedication.
