WE WILL DO EVERYTHING TO ENSURE A PEACEFUL, TRANSPARENT ELECTION – President Akufo-Addo Assures Ghanaians

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has made clear that the current government, led by him, will put in a lot of effort to guarantee that the upcoming December 7 election is peaceful, transparent, and just.

The President, addressing the Annual Bar Conference in Kumasi, urged all parties involved in the electoral process to contribute towards strengthening the country’s democratic progress since it transitioned to constitutional rule more than three decades ago.

By calling on important parties such as the media, civil society groups, and the public to maintain integrity standards, the president pledged “The Akufo-Addo government on its part will do everything within its power to ensure that upcoming elections are conducted in an environment of peace, fairness and transparency.”

President Akufo-Addo’s dedication is evident despite allegations from the opposition that the ruling party planned to manipulate the 2024 presidential election.

He urged the Electoral Commission to fulfill its crucial duty by behaving with fairness, autonomy, and honesty in organizing a politically neutral election.

President Akufo-Addo emphasized that the Electoral Commission is the only entity authorized to announce election results in the country and cautioned political parties against declaring results prematurely before the constitutionally mandated organization.

He clarified that such a deed may result in unpredictability and perplexity among the public.

Political parties must refrain from declaring results before the Electoral Commission does so as this could lead to confusion, misinformation, and even potential conflict,” the president advised.

Mr. Akufo-Addo noted that the EC had the responsibility to “uphold the will of the people”.
