Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo has announced Mohammed Kudus will lead the team for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Sudan.
Ghana will welcome Sudan to the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, October 10, for the third match of the qualifying series.
The choice was made following Thomas Partey’s pullout from the team for the October international period due to “health problems.”
Asked by journalists about who would lead the senior national team with the Arsenal midfielder missing, Addo revealed that the player from West Ham United will be the captain for the match in Accra.
Kudus has played an important role in the national team ever since he made his debut in November 2019 against South Africa. The ex-Right to Dream player has netted 11 goals in 36 games for the Black Stars and assisted in four more.
This will mark the initial occasion that the 23-year-old will don the captain’s armband for the Black Stars and will aim to motivate the team to reverse their current campaign.
Ghana’s point tally stands at one out of six, having lost to Angola and drawn 1-1 with Niger in the previous month.
The initial match against Sudan will take place at the Accra Sports Stadium, starting at 16:00 GMT, and both teams will then head to Libya for the second match five days afterwards.
