NDC DENOUNCES UNSAVOURY COMMENTS AGAINST FORMER PRESIDENT KUFOUR, ISSUES CAUTION TO MEDIA

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has disassociated itself from recent comments by one of its members, Comrade Dela Edem, against former President and statesman H.E. John Agyekum Kufour. The party has described the remarks as “unsavoury and distasteful,” reaffirming its respect for Ghana’s elderly and esteemed statesmen.

In a press statement issued on November 17, 2024, and signed by the party’s National Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC acknowledged that Comrade Edem has since retracted his comments and rendered an unqualified apology to the former President. The party also extended its apology, expressing hope that the matter would be resolved.

“The NDC as a party accords utmost respect to the elderly in our society and honour to our statesmen,” the statement emphasized.

The party has advised its communicators to remain focused on advancing the policies and vision of its flagbearer, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, as the December 7 elections approach. It urged members to concentrate on showcasing the transformational agenda of the NDC instead of engaging in unproductive discourse.

Additionally, the NDC took the opportunity to caution the media against spreading fake news, which it claims has become a recurring tactic of certain operatives of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). According to the statement, these individuals are disseminating falsehoods to mislead the public ahead of the general elections.

The NDC called on media houses to expose such individuals, including some alleged NPP communicators and Presidential Staffers, and to ensure they are held accountable under the law.

As the nation gears up for the upcoming elections, the NDC reiterated its commitment to a campaign based on truth and respect while calling for vigilance against misinformation.
