AMENFI CENTRAL MP PETER KWAKYE-ACKAH WITHDRAWS INDEPENDENT CANDIDATURE FOR 2024 ELECTION

The Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Hon. Peter Yaw Kwakye-Ackah, has officially announced his withdrawal from the 2024 parliamentary race as an independent candidate.

In a press statement dated November 18, 2024, Mr. Kwakye-Ackah attributed his decision to the High Court and Electoral Commission’s clearance of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, Joana Cudjoe, to contest the upcoming election. He noted that the reasons which initially motivated his independent bid are no longer relevant.

“I believe that my reasons for filing to contest the election as an independent candidate are no longer tenable,” the MP said.

Mr. Kwakye-Ackah expressed gratitude to the elders and leading members of the NDC for their guidance, emphasizing that his decision was made in the supreme interest of the party.

This announcement comes just days after another independent candidate, Dr. Karl Mark Arhin, also stepped down to endorse Joana Cudjoe’s candidature. However, it remains unclear if Mr. Kwakye-Ackah will follow suit and support Madam Cudjoe’s campaign.

The NDC leadership has been rallying its members to consolidate support ahead of the December 7 elections, with efforts focused on retaining the Amenfi Central seat.
