WITHDRAW YOUR SUPPORTERS FROM COLLATION CENTRES; IT’S DELAYING THE PROCESS – EC Begs

The Electoral Commission (EC) has expressed worries regarding party backers overwhelming collation centres in different constituencies nationwide.

The EC claims this conduct jeopardizes the electoral process, emphasizing that legislation mandates political parties must have only two representatives per candidate at every collation centre.

The Commission’s worries arise from reports from various constituencies suggesting that supporters of political parties are trying to invade collation centres.

During a media briefing on Sunday, December 8, Samuel Tettey, the Deputy Commissioner responsible for Operations at the EC, noted that the instruction from political parties for their supporters to gather at collation centres contravenes established policies and infringes upon standard procedures.

He called on political parties to promptly pull back their supporters, emphasizing that such moves hinder and postpone the collation process.

“We call on political parties to withdraw their supporters with immediate effect, and we call on the Ghana Police Service to step in,” Mr Tettey stated.

Although voting ended at 5:00 pm, no official result has been released as of 3:00 am.
