The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has announced that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is on track to release the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results by December 29, 2024.
During a visit to WAEC’s offices on Tuesday, December 24, Dr. Adutwum revealed that the Council has completed 50% of the work required for the results’ release, with the remaining scanning expected to be finalized by the end of the day.
“They are working through the holidays to ensure the results are released on or before the 29th of this month. As of now, close to 50% of the scanning has been completed, and they assure me the rest will be done by the close of today,” the Minister stated.
This year’s WASSCE results release has been delayed due to financial challenges, with the government reportedly owing significant debts to WAEC. The delay has caused uncertainty among students who purchased university awaiting forms, leaving them anxious about their academic future.
When questioned about the government’s indebtedness to WAEC, Dr Adutwum declined to comment, urging journalists to prioritize factual reporting.
WAEC has faced criticism for the delayed results, but the Council has assured stakeholders that efforts are being made to meet the December 29 timeline. Their work during the holidays reflects a commitment to minimizing disruptions to university admissions and students’ academic progression.
The delay has raised concerns among parents, students, and universities, with many calling on the government to resolve its financial obligations to WAEC to prevent future disruptions. Stakeholders are also urging for improved communication between the Education Ministry and WAEC to avoid similar delays.
As students eagerly await their results, the release timeline will be critical in ensuring smooth university admissions for the 2024/2025 academic year.
