Lawyers representing Ghanaian socialite and influencer Mona Faiz Montrage, popularly known as Hajia4Reall, have filed a formal request to the U.S. government for the release of her passport. The legal team seeks to initiate her self-deportation to Ghana following her incarceration.
The request, addressed to Judge J. Paul Oetken, was revealed in court documents seen by Ghana’s Hub for Pop Culture & Urban Entertainment, nydjlive.com. In the letter, her lawyers stated, “We represent Ms. Mona Montrage on the above-captioned matter. We write with the government’s consent to respectfully request the release of Ms. Montrage’s passport that was surrendered to Pretrial Services at the time of her arrest.”
The plea aligns with a prior judgment stipulating that her passport be returned once her prison sentence concludes. According to the motion, U.S. Marshals will escort Ms. Montrage directly from the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) facility to the airport, where she will board a flight to Ghana without any domestic stops.
Hajia4Reall voluntarily surrendered to authorities on July 29, 2024, and is currently serving a sentence of one year and one day at FDC Philadelphia. She was indicted on six charges, including her role in multiple romance scams and laundering proceeds from those schemes.
The socialite’s legal troubles stem from her alleged involvement in a multimillion-dollar scheme that targeted individuals in the U.S. through online romance frauds. Despite the controversies, her case has garnered significant public interest, especially in Ghana, where she enjoys a large following.
Ms. Montrage’s anticipated return to Ghana has sparked widespread conversations about the aftermath of her legal battles and the implications for her public image. Neither Hajia4Reall’s representatives nor U.S. authorities have provided further details on the progress of her deportation request.
