A US District Court Judge, Hon. J. Paul Oetken, has approved a request from the legal team of Ghanaian social media influencer Mona Faiz Montrage, widely known as Hajia4Reall or Mona4Reall, for the release of her passport. The decision, aimed at facilitating her self-deportation to Ghana, comes as Montrage nears the end of her 12-month prison sentence at the FDC Philadelphia facility.
Montrage’s lawyers, Fast Law, filed the request on November 1, 2024, citing the need to initiate her self-deportation process. In a document obtained by Nydjlive.com, the legal team stated, “We are respectfully seeking the return of Ms. Montrage’s passport to initiate her self-deportation proceedings to Ghana. We have conferred with AUSA Kevin Mead, and the government does not object to this request.”
Judge Oetken granted the request, ordering that Montrage’s passport be released to her legal representatives.
The ruling marks a significant step in Montrage’s case, which has drawn widespread attention. On June 28, 2024, she was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison after pleading guilty on February 21, 2024, to conspiracy to receive stolen money.
In addition to the prison term, Mona Montrage, was sentenced to three years of supervised release and ordered to forfeit $216,475 and pay restitution for $1,387,458.
