Ghanaian musician Kwabena Kwabena, whose real name is George Kwabena Adu, has shared his views on how emerging Ghanaian artistes see events taking place overseas.
An event promoter from Ghana based in Germany recently expressed in an interview with ZionFelix his concerns about the exorbitant fees demanded by certain Ghanaian artists when approached for overseas events.
After encouraging the artists to be mindful when setting their fees, Ofori One noted that if they aren’t willing to accept €2000 or other amounts that would be advantageous for both sides, they should plan their own events.
In an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra FM, Kwabena Kwabena remarked that the current generation of artistes in Ghana are in a mindset or environment regarding international events that needs to be addressed.
He asserted that event organizers overseas have no difficulty reaching out to veteran artists like him. He believes that veteran artists understand what is involved in international events, so they do not burden the organizers.
Kwabena Kwabena stated that event planners overseas earn little revenue since 90 percent of the audience is Ghanaian and unlikely to pay 50 dollars or euros to participate. He stated that some might even want to pay 10 dollars or 15 euros.
Considering the existing challenges, Kwabena encouraged emerging artists to alter their views regarding international events.
He mentioned that it varies when an artist is signed to a label and that label is featuring him/her in an event overseas.
