Communications Minister-Designate, Sam George has strongly suggested that he will take decisive action to guarantee that quality voice services are delivered to customers in Ghana.
He stated that the Communication Ministry, via the regulatory agency, will implement policies aimed at enhancing the performance of the MNOs.
Nevertheless, as the government backs the MNOs, KPIs will improve.
He stated that with the backing of the government, he would not hesitate to penalize MNOs that do not achieve the KPIs established for them.
“As Minister-Designate I think no. I think that there is a lot of work that the telcos have to do some work because for you to get better quality you need to allocate more spectrum to the MNOs.
If approved by this house, one of the things we will do is make more spectrum available, however, we will be raising the KPIs and ensuring that the standards are met.
I will not be a Minister who will be afraid to impose fines on MNOs who fail to meet the quality of service. Ghanaians deserve the best quality of service and we would crack the whip where necessary but we will also support the MNOs to ensure they get what is needed to provide us the best quality of service,” he told the Appointments Committee on January 30, 2025.
