The Founder and Leader of Glorious Word Power Ministries International, Rev. Isaac Owusu-Bempah, has strongly criticized Pastor Mensa Otabil, founder of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), over his remarks on divine revelation.
Owusu-Bempah’s response follows Otabil’s assertion that God no longer reveals mysteries to humans. During a sermon addressing prophecies related to Ghana’s upcoming 2024 general elections, Otabil stated that some pastors falsely claim exclusive divine insight. “They believe they are preaching mysteries that only God has revealed to them,” Otabil said. “But I sympathize with their ignorance. God is not revealing mysteries to anybody anymore. God’s revelation is closed. He is not adding or subtracting from the canon of scripture.”
Reacting to these statements during his sermon on February 1, 2025, Owusu-Bempah dismissed Otabil’s claims, arguing that God still communicates with people. “Most Christians are spiritually ignorant,” he told his congregation. “Even a pastor is saying that God no longer speaks to people—how is that possible? Does God speak to animals instead?”
Owusu-Bempah further questioned Otabil’s stance, pointing out that ICGC has prophets leading some of its branches. “Dr. Mensa Otabil, you have appointed a prophet to lead a branch of your church. If God does not speak to people, then who is speaking to him?” he asked.
The outspoken preacher insisted that Otabil’s teachings could not undermine the ministry of those who claim to receive divine revelations. “You are a respected Bible teacher, but you cannot collapse anyone’s church with your inaccurate teachings,” he warned.
Owusu-Bempah’s response adds to the ongoing debate among Ghanaian clergy over the nature of prophecy and divine communication in contemporary Christianity.
