A collective of Ghanaian traders, situated in the Ashanti Regional Capital of Kumasi an enduring bastion for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP)—has urged Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to step aside from any future flagbearership contests within the party.
During a press conference in Kumasi, the traders asserted that Dr. Bawumia, as the NPP’s flagbearer, has pathetically underperformed; hence, he ought to retreat from the political arena and entrust the party’s future to former Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP) Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
The group’s spokesperson emphasized that since 2008, when Akufo-Addo introduced Bawumia to the NPP, his repeated failures have tarnished the party’s reputation this cannot be overlooked.
Although he was once a promising candidate, he has consistently brought shame and disgrace to the organization.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ascended to the role of NPP flagbearer following Nana Akufo-Addo’s tenure.
He triumphed over Kennedy Agyapong in the primaries; however, he faltered in the general elections where President Mahama decisively defeated him.
According to these concerned NPP supporters, ensuring a victory in the upcoming election necessitates the exclusion of Dr. Bawumia from the race.
