WE MUST STOP BLAMING ONLY POLITICIANS FOR CORRUPTION – Afenyo-Markin Urges Ghanaians

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin argued that corruption is a societal issue and shouldn’t be seen as just a political problem.

Speaking during the 5th Annual Constitution Day Lecture, which MyNewsGH covered, he questioned the common belief that corruption exists only within politics.

He observed that accusations of corruption often result from personal motives rather than sincere concerns about governance.

“Do we often narrow the issue of corruption and limit it to the political class, or perhaps we have to broaden it and look at it as part of the general life of all of us as a people?” he asked.

“Those who don’t get their contracts through are the ones who complain of corruption, but those who get theirs through go to church in white-white and thank God,” he noted.

He pointed out that politicians frequently receive unfair labels of corruption, even though many of them face financial difficulties after their political careers end.

“Many politicians, contrary to the view that they are so corrupt, are very poor, especially legislators. You can see them after office, and you would wonder,” he remarked.

Afenyo-Markin called on Ghanaians to evaluate corruption more fairly, realizing that it goes beyond politics and is a broader issue affecting society as a whole.

“We can act collectively and be very fair to the issues,”he stated, calling for a national conversation on how corruption manifests across all sectors of society.
