George Opare-Addo has clarified the aim of the newly formed Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment, emphasizing that his responsibilities go beyond partisan politics.
During a discussion on Face to Face with Umaru Sanda, as observed by MyNewsGh, he presented the government’s goals for the youth in Ghana.
“My job is to help develop young people, make them job-ready, and empower them. Any Ghanaian who walks into this office seeking help will receive it. Every policy I design is for Ghana, not just for the NDC,” he stated.
The Minister also spoke about the structural modifications that resulted in the establishment of the new ministry.
“This is an entirely new ministry, meaning we have to start from scratch. We had to find office space and set up everything anew,” he explained.
In the past, issues concerning youth fell under the Ministry of Youth and Sports, but the current administration has separated the two.
Opare-Addo believes this change allows for a sharper focus on youth development. “The Executive Instrument (EI) that established this ministry created various other ministries.
Initially, there was the Ministry of Education, which had Sports under it. Later, Youth and Sports were combined. Now, we have a separate Ministry for Youth Development and Empowerment,” he explained.
