NPP LOST THE ELECTIONS BECAUSE OF AKUFO-ADDO, GABBY AND WONTUMI, BAWUMIA IS BLAMELESS – Afia Schwarzenegger

U.S.-based Ghanaian socialite Afia Schwarzenegger has cleared former Vice President Dr. Mahamudua Bawumia of any responsibility regarding the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s defeat in the 2024 elections.

Bawumia guided the NPP to its biggest loss in Ghanaian election history since 1996, as he was decisively defeated by President John Dramani Mahama by 56% to 41% in the 2024 elections.

After the elections, several NPP supporters and party officials urged Bawumia to withdraw and not run for the flagbearership in 2028, claiming he has been dismissed by Ghanaians and thus could no longer head the NPP.

Afia, in response to those allegations, stated that Bawumia bore no responsibility for the NPP’s loss. Afia attributed the loss directly to other high-ranking NPP officials, specifically former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, Ghana’s de facto Prime Minister during the NPP administration.

She additionally appointed the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, along with the former MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong.

Schwarzenegger stated that the NPP’s defeat was due to their arrogance, tone deafness, economic mismanagement, and other ‘sins,’ which were unrelated to Bawumia.
