Government Spokesperson Felix Ofosu Kwakye has explained that the President’s X account was hacked.
This explanation came 48 hours after an incident where the President’s account was used to promote an African memecoin.
The account tweeted, “Financial inclusion isn’t just a need for Ghana—it’s essential for all of Africa. With its low transaction costs, #Solana could be the key to driving fintech growth and enabling cryptocurrency payments & investments across the continent. Stay tuned for more details soon.”
The tweet made it seem like Solana, a cryptocurrency, was legitimate.
Felix Ofosu Kwakye spoke about the matter on Accra-based Gh One TV. He mentioned that efforts are currently being made to gain back control of the President of Ghana’s compromised account.
“There’s been a hack. Some unscrupulous persons have compromised it but efforts are underway to recover it and I am sure it will be recovered soon,” he said on Accra-based Gh One TV.
There is growing concern because if the President’s X account can be hacked, it raises serious national security questions.
It shows that even high-level accounts can be at risk from dishonest individuals, which could potentially harm the nation’s security.
