Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu constituency, has voiced concerns about the age of the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), COP Christian Tetteh Yuhono. He is planning to investigate this matter more thoroughly.
During a session in Parliament, where the new IGP was present with the Interior Minister to discuss urgent issues, Afenyo-Markin referred to a statement from the Minister of Government Communications. This statement announced the IGP’s appointment.
Afenyo-Markin highlighted that the statement claimed the new IGP has served in the Ghana Police Service for forty years.
He is curious to know how old the IGP was when he first joined the Ghana Police Service. The new IGP is reportedly sixty years old. He has replaced COP George Akuffo Dampare, who is fifty-five and has a few years left before retirement.
“The Minister in his answer took the opportunity to introduce the new IGP. I want to congratulate him on his appointment” Afenyo-Markin said.
“Suffice it to say that in the statement from the Minister responsible for Government Communications, he told the country that the new IGP has spent forty years in the service. 40 years as a police officer, so at the right time we will calculate, whether he entered at age 20, 19 or 18, his age and all.
“That is just, by the way, I wish him. I am only doing the mathematics as to whether the IGP is going to retire very soon. But Mr Speaker, that’s beside the point.
