MINORITY LEADER AFENYO MARKIN VISITS FORMER BOG GOVERNOR AFTER NATIONAL SECURITY RAID

The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, went to see the former governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison, because his house had been searched by National Security officers.

This search was reportedly led by Richard Jakpa, the Director of Special Operations.

Afenyo-Markin, who is also the Effutu MP, was very angry about the search and assured Dr. Addison that he would demand answers from the government.

On Wednesday, March 19, around 20 heavily armed men, reportedly led by Richard Jakpa, entered Dr. Addison’s private residence in the Roman Ridge area of Accra.

Dr. Addison was at home when these masked men arrived, carrying AK-47 rifles, to conduct the search.

The National Security team first turned off the CCTV system at the house. They then asked Dr. Addison to show them any “vaults” he might have. Dr. Addison explained that he had no vaults or large cash amounts at his home.

Despite this, the officers continued to search the house, according to witnesses. They found no vaults or cash. After the unsuccessful search, they took the CCTV monitor and control unit.

The raid left Dr. Addison and his family very shaken and upset, as shared by someone close to them.

This event was the second instance where Mr. Jakpa led an armed raid on the homes of notable former officials from the previous Akufo-Addo administration after President John Mahama took office on January 7, 2025.

The first raid involved Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta, who was Ghana’s longest-serving finance minister. His home in Labone, Accra, was searched by over 15 armed men on Monday, February 10, 2025.

This raid was recorded by the property’s CCTV cameras, and the footage was later released to the public.
