MOROCCO AND GHANA AGREE TO VISA WAIVER AGREEMENT FOR ALL TRAVELERS

Morocco and Ghana have reached an agreement to implement a visa waiver for all categories of travelers between the two countries, according to Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

The agreement, which will soon be presented to both nations’ parliaments for ratification, is part of broader efforts to strengthen bilateral ties. Following discussions with the Moroccan Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Imane Ouaadil, Ablakwa noted that both countries also pledged enhanced cooperation in agribusiness, tourism, and security. He described the talks as “fruitful and assuring.”

Ablakwa addressed widely circulated videos falsely claiming that 700 Africans, including Ghanaians, were being massacred in Morocco. He clarified that the footage was from a June 2022 border incident involving 23 casualties, which Moroccan and Spanish authorities had already investigated.

“No Ghanaian was affected by that tragic event,” he stated, emphasizing that the Moroccan government has assured the safety of Ghanaians and all Africans residing in Morocco.

In a positive development, Morocco has decided to double its scholarships for Ghanaian students, increasing the number from 90 to 180 starting this year.

Prior to meeting the Moroccan envoy, Ablakwa held talks with Russia’s Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Sergei Berdnikov, discussing various aspects of bilateral cooperation. Reaffirming Ghana’s foreign policy stance, Ablakwa stated, “Ghana will continue to pursue our longstanding policy of positive neutrality and serve as a credible voice for global peace.”
