A Ghanaian clergyman has taken steps to replace the vandalised statue of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Effiankwanta Hospital roundabout in Sekondi-Takoradi, Western Region.
Prophet Elija Joshua, founder of Glory and Dominion Ministry and former independent parliamentary candidate for Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira Constituency, disclosed he has paid GH¢40,000 to a sculptor to create a new statue.
Speaking on Connect FM’s Omanbapa Morning Show, Prophet Joshua said arrangements are being made to seek approval from former President Akufo-Addo, the Western Region House of Chiefs, and the Regional Minister before installing the new statue.
“The sculptor has assured me the work will be ready by May this year,” he stated.
The clergyman said if authorities prevent the statue’s installation at the original location, he will place it in his pickup truck to honor Akufo-Addo’s development projects in the region. The original statue was completely vandalised in January 2024. Prophet Joshua said he is replacing it to appreciate Akufo-Addo’s legacy in the Western Region.
“Akuffo began the construction of expansion works to convert Effiankwanta Hospital to a teaching hospital status. He also initiated the construction of the Takoradi Market Circle and the Kwame Nkrumah interchange. There is ongoing work to dualise the Sekondi to Takoradi and Agona Nkwanta roads. These works show that Akuffo Addo left a legacy in the Western Region and deserves appreciation. I’ll present the final work in May, if they refuse, I will take it to my hometown or put it at the back of my pickup and drive around”, he added.
