O Yeong-su is an 80-year-old actor from South Korea, who became well-known for his role in the popular Netflix series “Squid Game.”
Recently, he was sentenced to one year in prison for indecent assault.
Initially, the court had decided on an eight-month sentence with two years of probation, but this was later changed to a full year in prison.
The accusations are related to events from 2017.
O Yeong-su allegedly forcefully hugged and kissed a woman on two different occasions. He has consistently denied these allegations.
However, prosecutors argued that he sexually harassed a junior colleague who had little power within their group.
O Yeong-su’s legal team firmly denied the charges, stating that the case was built only on the woman’s testimony.
They argued that her account lacked clarity and consistency and did not provide logical details. O Yeong-su expressed that he felt very regretful about the situation.
He stated that he would accept the court’s decision if they found his actions inappropriate, though he personally did not think his actions amounted to assault.
The final decision in the appeal trial is expected to be announced on June 3.
