Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Bimbo Ademoye, has warned television stations in Ghana against unlawfully airing her films without permission.
Her comment reinforces the worries expressed by Nigerian filmmakers like Ruth Kadiri and Omoni Oboli regarding a seemingly ongoing trend of copyright violations by certain Ghanaian media organisations.
In a clip posted on her Instagram account, Bimbo Ademoye firmly warned against the ongoing use of her intellectual property without Agreement.
The actress revealed that she originally aimed for a cooperative method, wanting to participate in talks with the stations concerned.
Nonetheless, she indicated that ongoing infractions and the absence of responsibility have caused her to retract any desire to negotiate.
The actress warned she would report the matter to the relevant authorities if the illegal broadcasting continued.
Ademoye criticised not just TV stations but also condemned various YouTube channels, including Ayodeji Films, Nolly Specials, and Nollynew Series, for deceiving viewers with her film titles and promotional images.
“That TV station in Ghana, I’m talking to you, don’t show my movies. I haven’t given you permission. Before, I used to say, ‘At least come to me, let’s discuss and share,’ but now, I don’t want your money. Don’t show my movies,” she stated.
In a forcefully phrased caption with her video, she promised to safeguard the authenticity of her creations.
“Let the battle begin. I will not let anyone profit off my blood, sweat, and sleepless nights,” she added.
