The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has declared a prohibition on drumming and noise-making from May 12 to June 12, 2025, in relation to cultural practices in anticipation of the Homowo Festival.
In a statement endorsed by Public Affairs Head Gilbert Nii Ankrah, the AMA indicated that the limitation, intended to maintain peace and tradition, applies to all persons and organisations within its area, including Gamashie, Ablekuma West, and sections of Kasoa.
Characterizing the period as “a sacred time of gravity and spiritual contemplation,” the AMA instructed churches to hold services exclusively indoors without any musical instruments.
Loudspeakers near places of worship, street preaching, and outdoor celebrations are likewise prohibited.
