Minority Leader Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin has lauded the diplomatic prowess of Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, describing his skills as being at their peak. The praise came during an interview with Channel One TV on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, where Afenyo-Markin highlighted Ayariga’s critical role in fostering dialogue and building consensus within Parliament.
The commendation follows a tense period in Parliament after the Minority initially decided to withhold approval for Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Minister-designate for Lands and Natural Resources. The opposition had raised concerns about the nomination process, sparking tensions in the chamber. However, Ayariga’s timely intervention played a pivotal role in de-escalating the situation and paving the way for a resolution.
Afenyo-Markin praised Ayariga’s ability to engage in constructive discussions, which ultimately led to an apology and a restoration of parliamentary cooperation. “Ayariga’s diplomacy is at its all-time best. He engaged in some useful discussions that led to the resolution,” Afenyo-Markin stated, emphasizing the Majority Leader’s instrumental role in bridging divides.
Meanwhile, the Appointments Committee of Parliament continues its vetting process for President John Dramani Mahama’s nominees. So far, the committee has unanimously recommended the approval of all nominees who have undergone scrutiny, signaling a renewed spirit of collaboration within the legislative body.
Ayariga’s diplomatic efforts have not only eased tensions but also underscored the importance of dialogue in achieving consensus, a sentiment echoed by both sides of the aisle.
