BILL SUBMITTED TO PARLIAMENT OF GHANA TO INCREASE MATERNITY LEAVE & INTRODUCE PATERNITY LEAVE

A bill has been submitted to Ghana’s Parliament to increase maternity leave and introduce paternity leave.

Maternity Leave ;
This Bill seeks to amend Section 57(1) of the Labour Act to extend the period of maternity leave from 12 weeks to 16weeks (months to 4 months) with an option for an additional 2 weeks in the case of caesarean, stillbirth(s) or multiple births, and to provide for related matters.

Paternity Leave ;
This Bill seeks to amend Section 20 of the Labour Act to introduce paternity leave for a minimum period of 7 days and a maximum period of 4 weeks with an option for additional two weeks in the case of caesarean, stillbirth(s) or multiple delivery of a spouse.
