On Monday, March 24, there were new developments in the case about domestic workers and others accused of stealing valuables from the home of Cecilia Abena Dapaah, a former Sanitation Minister.
While being questioned further, Madam Cecilia Dapaah informed the court that her late brother, Nana Akwasi Essan II, also known as Charles Dapaah, held the position of a subchief for Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu I.
Earlier in the trial, she claimed that the accused had stolen $210,000, which belonged to her brother.
Lawyer Augustine Gyamfi asked Madam Dapaah if she was part of a royal family responsible for the properties of the Asantehene’s spouse. She replied that there was no royalty in her family.
The lawyer further asked her to clarify her late brother’s role at the Manhyia Palace.
“Numoahene, I know he served as one of Otumfuo’s chiefs,” she then admitted.
“Do you want this court to believe that you haven’t returned jewellery belonging to Otumfuo’s wife who’s from Pankrono through the Manhyia palace after the allegations that the accused persons stole them?”
Cecilia Dapaah: This has never happened. It’s history to me.”
