COURT DISMISSES CASE AGAINST BLACK SHERIF BY CRUISE PEOPLE

The Accra High Court recently rendered a verdict in the legal dispute between Cruise People Ltd and Ghanaian musician, Black Sherif, ultimately dismissing the case filed by the company.

The legal battle stemmed from the cancellation of the ‘Afro Cruise Jam’ concert, scheduled to take place in Athens, Greece, in August 2023, where Black Sherif was slated to perform.

Cruise People Ltd contended that Black Sherif’s alleged failure to honor their agreement led to the cancellation of the event, resulting in financial losses for the company.

Seeking redress, they aimed to secure compensation from the musician for the incurred costs. However, the legal team representing Black Sherif put forth a compelling argument, asserting that the court lacked jurisdiction to adjudicate the case.

Representatives of the Cruise People Limited fought off this claim insisting the court had jurisdiction to handle the case because both parties are Ghanaians and ply their trades in Ghana.

The court presided over by Judge Mariama Sammo, agreed with the lawyers for the Konongo-born musician.

In her decision on Thursday, November 16, the judge indicated that none of the addresses given by the party performing the contract was located in Ghana.

This left the court with no option but to dismiss the case against the award-winning music star.
