GFA DRAGS AMERICAN REFEREE, ISMAIL ELFATH TO FIFA OVER BIASED OFFICIATING IN GHANA VS PORTUGAL CLASH

The Ghanaian Football Association (GFA) has complained to FIFA over American referee Ismail Elfath’s abysmal officiating in their match versus Portugal.

The much-touted VAR was humiliated by the shameful decision, which hastened the demise of technology, and the Ghana Football Association is calling for sanctions to be applied.

The Major Soccer League referee has come in for increasing criticism when he gave the Black Stars a questionable penalty at the 974 Stadium in Doha, which clubless Cristiano Ronaldo converted.

The referee determined that Mohammed Salisu’s challenge of Cristiano Ronaldo was a foul and declined to take a second look at the VAR monitor.

However, television replays have shown the referee got it wrong and that decision should never have stood with top English referee Mike Dean stating Ghana were “cheated”. He also said it’s scary that the referee wasn’t asked to go take a second look at the Salisu incident on the VAR screen.”

Cristiano Ronaldo’s suspicious penalty gave Portugal the lead in the 65th minute.

Ghana equalised against the run of play when Andre Ayew, their own veteran striker, fired home from close range (73), but Portugal immediately responded with quickfire goals from Joao Felix (78) and substitute Rafael Leao (80), both set up by Bruno Fernandes.

Osman Bukari’s header for Ghana’s second goal in the 89th minute forced Portugal to survive a tense finish as Inaki Williams’ late equalizer attempt fell short.

In a heart-stopping moment that left Cristiano Ronaldo speechless, he came dangerously close to shocking Portugal with a dramatic late equalizer.
