
Ghana has been ranked the 19th happiest country in Africa and 125th out of 147 countries globally based on all indicators, according to the 2025 World Happiness Report.
Finland maintained its position as the happiest country for the eighth consecutive year.
In Africa, South Africa came first but 95th globally, followed by Mozambique (96th globally), Gabon (97th globally), and Côte d’Ivoire (98th globally).

The research was conducted by the Wellbeing Research Centre at the University of Oxford. The rankings are derived from individuals’ self-assessments of their quality of life, averaged over three years.
Factors influencing these assessments include GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom to make life choices, generosity, and perceptions of corruption.
In the 2024 World Happiness Report, Ghana was ranked 120th out of 143 countries, with a happiness index score of 4.289.
