HOW DO WE FIGHT CORRUPTION WHEN MPS ‘BRIBE’ DELEGATES DURING ELECTIONS? – Okyeame Kwame Quizzes

Ghanaian rapper Okyeame Kwame, has voiced worry about the high rates at which bribery is permeating the political structure of the nation.

He said it is concerning and calls for investigation when candidates run for parliamentary office and offer substantial sums of money in an attempt to get delegates to vote for them.

He went on to say that instead of attending to the concerns of their voters, people who buy their way into power usually concentrate on building wealth in order to recoup the money they have already spent.

According to Okyeame Kwame, the country would still have difficulties in its attempts to combat corruption and stop the embezzlement of public monies.

“Another aspect of partisan politics I find objectionable is that to become an MP, one must pay delegates. So, he has bribed the delegates to become an MP, and later he claims we are fighting corruption; what does that imply?

“I hope that during parliamentary primaries, if we have seven million card-carrying members of the NPP or NDC, those individuals should vote. That way, we can elect a competent person who has advanced through the ranks and truly represents the group’s interests. Not someone who travels from Kumasi or Accra to be elected as an MP in another town,” he told Ohemaa Woyeje in an interview on Angel FM.
