MAKEUP IS NOT EASY, COSTUME IS EXPENSIVE – Obaapa Christy On Why She Can’t Perform For Free

Obaapa Christy, a well-known Ghanaian Gospel musician has spoken up about the difficulties of being an artist in the music business and revealed that she charges for her concerts because of the costs associated with preparing for performances.

The award-winning singer revealed in a recent interview that the price of makeup and costumes alone may be high and that people outside the industry frequently forget about these costs.

“From Day 1, when I began singing and granting interviews, I was asked if I charge before performing at shows…’And I said Yes, I charge, they ask, as a Christian why do you charge?’ Makeup is expensive, costume to appear good is equally expensive because I can’t wear it anywhere after today and I also have to eat. This is our work Even the bible says he who works for the lord eats from their gains,” she pointed out

Obaapa Christy’s comments shed light on the often-overlooked costs that performers must bear, particularly when it comes to looking their best on and off stage. Makeup, hair styling, and costumes are all crucial elements of a performance, and they can come with a hefty price tag.

“Sister [referring to MzGee] when you are done you’ll receive your monthly remuneration, so if you take it as I am a Christian so when a pastor calls me I’m obliged to go and sing then just receive God Bless You and leave then it’s wrong,” she declared

She claimed that other artists in the past have followed that course of action and are now reluctant to charge for their services, further supporting her claim.

“Initially, people used to say that they’ll perform for free but now when they want to charge, they’ll be referred to the comments they made on this subject. I think we should be honest with ourselves especially if doesn’t offend God,” she hammered.

Obaapa Christy made it clear that her performance fees cover more than just these costs; they also include the time and effort she invests in putting on a great performance for her audience.
